OUR STAND ON ANTI-RACISM, EQUITY AND INCLUSION
We believe we are all made better by the diversity that exists in our communities. Our values are centered on the notion of creating a place where every team member and guest feels welcome, respected, appreciated, and able to be themselves.
We are making it a priority to do our part to tackle and eliminate systemic racism and discrimination in our business, the hospitality industry and communities. To do this we will honestly and responsibly address the concerns and needs of our diverse team members by actively supporting a culture of anti-racism, equity and inclusion for all, including, but not limited to, Black, Indigenous and people of colour, members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community, persons with disabilities, and women.
We acknowledge that:
• Racism is a system, not an event.
• Racism isn’t limited to the intentional acts of bad people. It includes unconscious bias and subtle acts.
• Racism and discrimination is a socialized condition that hides behind how we see others and in the implicit biases we must all confront and address.
• We have an ethical duty to speak up against racism and discrimination or we are complicit in keeping it in place.
• Eliminating anti-Black racism and all other forms of systemic discrimination will be hard work: it requires grace and courage, collaboration, accountability and most of all a safe environment for people to speak up.
• Systemic discrimination has been built up and reinforced for centuries, whether against Black, Indigenous people, people of colour, 2SLGBTQ+, and other minority groups. Only a sustained and focused effort will eliminate it.
• We are family. We understand that it is a priority that all diverse Gusto 54 team members feel equally supported, respected and have access to opportunity at work. It is also a priority that all diverse guests and business partners feel equally respected and supported in our businesses.
