Got Hitched with Gusto: Shir & Michael

Love (and food) is in the air at Gusto 54! Shir & Michael, who said I love you a week into dating (#swoon), invited us to cater their big day!  We sat down with these two lovebirds to hear about their relationship, the planning process and how they ‘Got Hitched with Gusto.’

About you two

How is married life going?

Married life is awesome. While understandably not that much different from life before marriage, calling each other husband and wife just feels so damn good. All the stress of planning a wedding behind us, it feels like we can finally focus back on real life and start working towards our future together every day from now until forever.

Who said I love you first?

Michael did. It was so cute, he was so cute, I’ll never forget it. Without going into too much gushy detail, after just a week or so of dating he asked “Is it too soon to tell you I love you?” and that was it!

If you could describe your relationship by a song, what song would it be?

Oddly enough the song was also our ‘wedding song’ – WILD ONES ft Sia (Nickey Romero Club Mix) the version without the rapping. The lyrics perfectly describe how we fell in love and are the perfect metaphor for being so stoked to spend the rest of our lives together.

About Gusto 54 Catering

What was your reasoning to go with Gusto 54 catering and how did we bring your vision to life?

My husband and I have been in love with Gusto ever since it first opened. We go there at least once a month and have tried everything on the menu for sure. Never once being disappointed. When it came time to pick a caterer for our wedding it just seemed fitting in so many ways, to share the food from our favourite restaurant with all our family and friends.

What was your favourite dish at the wedding?

Burgers and fries for sure. The burgers at Gusto are just so good!

Do you feel like your wedding struck a balance between money spent versus value?

Absolutely!! The food was amazing and extremely affordable.

How did the service style help to move guests around your space?

I loved the station set up of the food because it let people hang out with each other throughout the entire evening and also to eat at their own pace. I find sit down dinners at set tables to be very stuffy and fairly awkward so this was definitely a win for us!

Name one wedding food trend you hate.

Prime rib. It never turns out as good as when you order it from a restaurant and is way too overpriced.
